About Me

The best stories make you lose sleep at night, because you just can’t stop reading them. They teach you something, and when you put them down, you are a little bit closer to who you’re meant to be. They are inspiring, exciting, contagious and original. These are the kinds of stories I grew up reading, and they’re the kind I write.

I became a writer because when I was a child, angry and alone, I turned to stories and they saved my life. John Irving taught me about humanity while Anne McCaffrey showed me bravery and Roald Dahl kept me from sliding into cynicism. I learned my values from these stories; their heroes were my mentors.

I write mostly within the genre of fantasy because it is within the pages of fantasy and science-fiction that I’ve seen life’s deepest struggles most honestly reflected. Fantasy explores soul purpose, survival, courage and power. I can’t get enough of it.

I think my all-time favorite thing about fantasy is that, in entering this new world, you are welcomed into a community of its characters: powerful, kind, determined people who love each other like family and will die to do the right thing. That’s the kind of people I want to spend time with, you know? All that magic in Harry Potter and the thing I was most envious of growing up was how close Harry was to those two great best friends.

If my kind of thing sounds like your kind of thing, you might want to check out my first novel.

Oh, something besides books, you mean? You might like to know that I also design jewelry (fantasy-inspired, of course). Learn a bit about my soon-to-launch Etsy line here.

No, no! Like what you do for fun! I gotcha. Scroll down to follow me on social media, where I post about my love of cosplay, my beloved pet chickens, and my ginger-bearded husband Kevin.
